From decluttering strategies to mindful decor choices, we'll guide you through the process of curating a space that promotes relaxation and positive energy. Get ready to discover practical ways to enhance your home environment and bring a sense of calm into every room.
1. DECLUTTER - you don't necessary need to turn into Minimalist, simply put things where they belong, throw out used and broken items, archieve your Memory Totems (my rule: keep max. 3 personal souvenirs per room - yes, family pictures included).
Marie Kondo says: "Keep items that spark joy in you." What if everything sparks joy?
Maybe let's put it this way: keep three things that you would miss the most if your house got burnt in the fire tomorrow...
2. KEEP IT SIMPLE - colorful neon lights, groovy wallpaper, eclectic or shabby furniture? Yes. All of it is interesting and meaningful. However: are you able to find peace and deep relaxation, you desperately need? Keep it simple, choosing one design direction you like the most. Be careful with colors - use them for your accent furniture only leaving rest neutral.
3. MAKE IT NATURAL - as organic food make your body healthy, your home wants to be healthy as well. Bet on natural fabrics and prints, organic textures (like cotton, wood, stone, or wool).
Studies show that human brain comforts from nature, as our roots are in the mountains, forests and steps.
4. DIY - create your furniture and decorations by yourself. Sitting on Fritz Hansen's Egg armchair for bazilion of dollars will make you forget about its worth after couple of months. Sitting on a crooked chair you made yourself will bring you joy and fulfillement for years to come (if it won't collapse of course).
5. COMFORT - invest in comfortable and inviting furniture. Create cozy nooks with cushions and throws, making your home a comfortable retreat.
6. AROMATHERAPY - use scents like lavender, chamomile, or eucalyptus to create a calming atmosphere. Candles, essential oils, or incense can all contribute to a soothing scent.
7. AMBIENCE - opt for soft, warm lighting instead of harsh, bright lights. Use spotlights, table and floor lamps, candles to create a cozy and inviting ambiance.
8. TOUCH - incorporate soft textures in your decor. Plush rugs, fluffy pillows, and soft blankets can add a luxurious and comforting feel to your space.
9. DETOX - electronics and gadgets are very useful, helping you clean, cook, assisting your daily life, letting you sit and relax. Are they really? Think about it... Vacuuming robot got stuck on a carpet again missed a spot with bunch of crambs. Every time you ask your kid, Max, how was his day at school, your virtual assistant Alexa is giving you lecture about the history of education. Your wireless phone charger is not working, as your dog tried to charge his teeth on it. Your mother-in-law is asking you (again) which remote should she use to watch the last episode of "Guiding Light". Looks familiar? Keep the gadgets to minimum, to be able to break away and catch a breath.
10. MINDFULLNESS - are you a pragmatic person? So am I. It doesn't mean that we shouldn't trust the old practices of feng-shui. Or at least give it a chance...
There are multiple ways you can change how you feel phisically and mentally, by changing your surroundings. The way you position your furniture, the way you cover the windows, or the type of art you are hanging on the wall.
